Understanding the Importance of the Duty of Candour Report

Paramount Care - Duty of Candour Report

Covering January 2023 to January 2024

A Duty of candour document is a legal requirement, all Health and Social care services in Scotland must complete the document yearly.  It is to ensure that if something does go wrong in the service we provide to our clients that has a detrimental effect on the health and well-being which affect the people we attend, it means we can offer an explanation, an apology and assurance that staff will learn from the error. This report is then shared with the people affected and also with the care inspectorate and in the wider context throughout Scotland so that any learning can be identified and shared.

Our organization is a medium to large company who supply care workers to attend to people living in their own homes in all aspects of daily living.

An important part of this duty is to provide an annual report about the duty of candour in our services. This short report describes how our care service operated the Duty of candour has been throughout the period of January 2023 to January 2024. We hope you find this report useful.

HOW MANY INCIDENTS HAPPENED TO WHICH THE DUTY OF CANDOUR APPLIES?

In the last year, there have been no incidents to which the Duty of candour applied.

INFORMATION ABOUT OUR POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

All staff learn about the duty of candour at their induction and at ongoing training sessions. It is part of our policies and procedures, all policies and procedures are shared within our Quality Compliance system, this year QCS introduced an app so that all policies and procedures are readily accessible for all staff. We have supplied all staff with their own mobile phones so the app is securely available.

Staff are aware that any incident/accident/near miss will be investigated and where a duty of candour is triggered the manager will follow this through.

All of the relevant parties would be contacted and reports would be sent to Care Inspectorate as necessary.  Staff are made aware of the importance of this process as if any issues are identified, we would invoke learning sessions for all staff and if necessary changes to how the company is run would be made.

If you require any further information about the company, please contact us here at Paramount care on 01224 279400 or info.@pcaberdeen.org.uk.
